Southeast Asia has experienced high energy demand growth over the last two deacdes. While every country in the region faces distinct challenges, a number of common areas to address include energy intensity, import dependence, and fossil fuel dependency.

IN ITS Global Energy Architecture Performance Index Report 2015, the World Economic Forum noted that Southeast Asia has experienced high growth in energy demand over the last two years, though the common areas of concern remain energy intensity, import dependence and fossil fuel dependence. The Philippines -- whose rank improved to 59th on the index from the previous year’s 64th spot -- is no stranger to those challenges as a net importer of fuel, which exposes it to the geopolitical risks associated with the world market.
